Eleven Northwell hospitals earn ‘Most Wired’ award

Eleven Northwell Health hospitals have been recognized for their commitment to health care information technology in 2019 with HealthCare’s 20th annual Most Wired awards, issued by The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.

Several Northwell facilities were among the 29 hospitals in New York State and 321 nationwide named to the Most Wired list. Each were recognized for using information technology such as smartphones, telehealth and remote monitoring as tools to help promote patent health and safety. These include:

The annual assessment looks at how hospitals use information technology to enhance patient safety and quality-of-care priorities, as well as their public health, and administrative processes.

One of Northwell’s newest technological implementations is the use of Microsoft Teams, a cloud-based app that allows physicians, nurses and other health care providers to securely share information about their patients. Already in place at a few facilities, it will be rolled out systemwide by early 2020.

“Northwell Health is committed to investing in technologies that assure the highest level of care for the patients we serve,” said John Bosco, senior vice president and chief information officer at Northwell Health, who oversees the IT function of one of the nation’s largest integrated healthcare systems. “Our ‘Most Wired’ designation reflects our ability to develop health IT infrastructure that supports impactful population health management and patient engagement.”

Northwell Health has an IT team of more than 1,900 employees working across the health system’s 23 hospitals and 750 outpatient physician practices and ambulatory facilities.
