FCA awarded $100,000 infrastructure grant

The Island Now

Family & Children’s Association, a leading health and human services organization on Long Island, received a $100,000 grant supported by New York State Sen. Elaine Phillips, who represents the 7th Senate District in Nassau County.

The funding will be used specifically to make FCA’s headquarters at 100 East Old Country Road in Mineola wheelchair accessible and to upgrade outdated control systems in the building’s HVAC system.

The funding demonstrates Phillips’ understanding of the needs of health and human service organizations, along with the action she is taking to provide support for those needs.

FCA currently operates adult and senior services such as Link-Age, a short-term case management program which links seniors struggling with mental health and substance use issues to appropriate services, an Extended In-Home Services for the Elderly program, an Alzheimer’s Caregiver program and a Nursing Home and Assisted Living Ombudsman program out of 100 East Old Country Rd.

Along with FCA’s new family therapy practice, Family First, FCA will be able to provide the comfort of wheelchair accessibility, along with improved conditions for clients and FCA employees.

“We are fortunate to have organizations such as the Family & Children’s Association in our region to help those in need with critical services including addiction, prevention, treatment, and recovery services, as well as family education support programs and mental health services,” said Phillips. “I was proud to secure this funding, which will allow greater access to FCA for local residents in need.  Thank you to Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds and the entire FCA staff for their commitment to aiding the local community.”

“FCA thanks Senator Phillips for her commitment to our organization’s mission”, said Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds, president and CEO, “Many Long Islanders we serve often come to us in moments of crisis and despair, so having this funding will undoubtedly improve access to and offer more comfort within our main building, providing a more rewarding experience for our growing number of clientele. Furthermore, as we continue to expand as an organization, FCA employees will also benefit from these renovations.”
