North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board announced this week that the Town will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month on Wednesday, Sept. 26 from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., highlighted by a ceremony at the North Hempstead “Yes We Can” Community Center, 141 Garden St. in New Cassel. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.

“The Town of North Hempstead never passes up an opportunity to celebrate its diverse residents who all help to make our community a great place to live,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “During Hispanic Heritage Month, we are able to celebrate and highlight the generous spirits of our Hispanic-American residents and their commitment and contributions to our community.”

The event will include live entertainment and refreshments from local restaurants. All members of the public are welcome to attend.

Hispanic Heritage Month begins each year on Sept. 15, the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, with Mexico’s anniversary of its independence on Sept. 16.

The North Hempstead “Yes We Can” Community Center is located at 141 Garden Street in Westbury.   For more information, please call 311 or visit www.northhempsteadny.gov.
