What made us laugh in the old days of Sid Caesar and Milton Berle is a far cry from the jokes and stories told by Larry David, Sarah Silverman and other contemporary comics today. But even if it seems like nothing is really off-limits anymore, do we want to hear Jewish comedians referencing the Holocaust for laughs?
In an upcoming presentation, Linda Burghardt will talk about how figuring out what’s funny can be serious business.
The lecture is open to the public and will take place on Friday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County, Welwyn Preserve, located at 100 Crescent Beach Road in Glen Cove.
Burghardt is a journalist and author from Great Neck. She worked as a freelance reporter for The New York Times for 20 years and is the author of three non-fiction books. Her articles and essays have appeared in newspapers across the country and she has lectured to both national and international audiences on a variety of Holocaust topics. She holds a doctorate degree from LIU-Post and is the daughter of Holocaust survivors from Vienna. Currently, she serves as Scholar-in-Residence at the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center.
