Blank Slate Media to host forum on college in the age of the coronavirus

Blank Slate Media will host a virtual forum on college in the age of the coronavirus Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.

A panel of four experts will discuss all things college in the age of the coronavirus during a free virtual town hall hosted by Blank Slate Media and sponsored by Northwell Health on Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.

As part of a series of panels on crucial community issues moderated by Blank Slate Media founder and editor Steven Blank, experts Claire Fitzgibbon, Christine Loo, Joy-Anne D’Anca and Jamie L. Reich will field questions in the chat from attendees.

Fitzgibbon is the director for undergraduate admission at Hofstra University, a position she has held for the past 13 years. Fitzgibbon obtained her bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Notre Dame in 2004, where she majored in marketing.  She later obtained her master’s from Hofstra in industrial and organizational psychology.

Loo is  the director of college counseling for the Stony Brook School, a private school from grades 7-12.  Loo obtained her bachelor’s degree in American history from the University of Pennsylvania in 1989. Two years later, Loo obtained her master’s in social work from Penn. Prior to her position at the Stony Brook School, which she has held for five years, Loo was a college guidance counselor at Archbishop Molloy High School in Briarwood, Queens, for nearly eight years.

D’Anca was appointed to her position as the director of guidance and counseling services for the Manhasset school district in 2019. Before joining the district, D’Anca served as the director of guidance in the Carle Place school district for grades 7-12.  D’Anca obtained her bachelor’s in education from St. John’s University in 2003, where she also served as assistant to the director of the university’s freshman center.  D’Anca also earned her doctorate in educational leadership, advanced certification, and master’s degrees from St. John’s and served as a guest speaker for St. John’s School of Education human services and counseling department.

Reich has been a professional college adviser for 18 years as well as the founder and owner of JLR Advising LLC.  Her company serves the public for college advising, essay editing and transfer applications. Reich holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Sociology, and Education, cum laude, from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., a Master of Science in Education with a specialization in Counselor Education “With Distinction” from Hofstra University in Uniondale, New York as well as New York State Public School Teacher Permanent Certification in School Counseling. In addition, Ms. Reich holds a Professional Diploma in Marriage and Family Therapy “With High Honors” from Hofstra University.

Reich is also a member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association and the National Association for College Admission Counseling.  Reich also co-authored “The Book of Answers: The Expert’s Guide to Navigating College Admissions.” Reich is married and loves spending time with her children and grandchildren. For her, family and friends reign supreme.
