A longtime Nassau County resident and founder of an advisory firm that specializes in financial turnarounds for companies was appointed to serve on the board that oversees the county’s finances on Wednesday.

Mohsin Meghji, the founder and managing partner of M3 Partners, was selected by Gov. Andrew Cuomo at the recommendation of Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins on Wednesday.

“We are pleased to welcome Mo Meghji to the board of directors, as it continues to fulfill its mission of overseeing the County’s finances,” finance authority Chairman Adam Barsky said. “Mo’s years of experience managing complex problems and aligning interests to achieve financial and strategic goals will serve our board and this county very well.”

“I am honored to serve as a member of the Nassau County Interim Finance Authority Board of Directors,” Meghji said. “I look forward to helping the board and its staff maintain the financial security of Nassau County.”

Meghji, who has been a Nassau resident for nearly a decade, replaced Paul Leventhal on the board, who left the organization after first being appointed by Cuomo in 2014. Leventhal’s term was set to expire on Dec. 31

Efforts to reach a representative from the finance authority to comment on Leventhal’s departure were unavailing.

“We thank Mr. Leventhal for his years of service and knowledge, which have been an asset to the NIFA and the County,” Barsky said.

Meghji is no stranger to financial overhaul tasks, as he recently served as the chief restructuring officer for major companies such as Sears Holdings Corporation and Barney’s Inc.  Meghji also founded the M III Acquisition Corp., a special purpose acquisition company that morphed into the Infrastructure and Energy Alternatives, Inc.

He has also served as a director on corporate boards for Toys “R” Us, Frontier Communications, Philadelphia Energy Solutions Refining and Marketing LLC, along with others.

Meghji also spent a dozen years with Arthur Andersen & Co., formerly known as one of the “Big Five” accounting firms, at its London, Toronto, and New York offices. Meghji eventually reached the position of Partner in the Global Corporate Finance Group as well.

Meghji is a graduate of the Schulich School of Business at York University in Canada and took executive courses at the INSEAD business school in France. He has also been qualified as a U.S. Certified Turnaround Professional and U.K. and Canadian Chartered Accountant.
