Glen Oaks Club Wellness Day

The Island Now

The Glen Oaks Club in Westbury continues its leadership role in raising funds and awareness to support the 46th year of the Babes Against Cancer program on Long Island.

On Wednesday, Aug. 8, the Glen Oaks Club hosted a Wellness Day for members and guests. 120 women were treated to a healthy breakfast, shopping on the patio, followed by Pilates, strength training, outdoor yoga, meditation, a healthy cooking demonstrations and a colorful spa lunch.

Separate from the annual Babes Against Cancer golf tournament, the Wellness Day was led by a completely different committee at the club, according to June Ingraham, of the American Cancer Society.  “The organizers are a group of young, influential women putting a lot of energy into this new event,” she says. “This is exactly the type of thing we are encouraging other clubs to do to engage the interest of more members in fitness and wellness initiatives and we applaud their innovation.”

Earlier this year, the Glen Oaks Club Babes Against Cancer committee was recognized as the Top Babes Against Cancer Club by the Society for raising a total of $236,326 last season. Dollars raised through Babes Against Cancer supports the American Cancer Society’s work to save lives and provide support to everyone impacted by cancer — from research to education, prevention to diagnosis, and treatment to recovery.
