Following a successful first year, the business community of Roslyn is going pink on Oct. 23 for a fundraiser organized by a local breast cancer survivor.

Robyn Jaslow of Roslyn Country Estates was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001 and began raising funds through events such as the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Jones Beach.

Now in remission, Jaslow incorporated her own foundation, Go With Courage, in 2011 to support various institutions and charities and a self-run program called We’ve Got Your Back, which sends hot meals, assists with memorial services, help to tutor children, rides to and from treatment and send children to camp at the Sid Jacobson JCC.

Since she began fundraising, Jaslow says, the business community of Roslyn has been supportive of her efforts, and numerous stores asked her to hold in-store fundraisers.

It was during a conversation with Leslie Cohen, owner of the clothing store Transitions, that Jaslow thought of a solution that could involve multiple stores in the community. After a rousing success in 2019, the event is back – with a few changes to make it pandemic-friendly.

The organization says that this year, it is moving forward with a COVID-safe event that will feature outdoor components, “wherever possible.” Patrons will be required to wear masks to enter a Go With Courage tent set up in the parking lot adjacent to Delicacies to sell raffles and auction off some special items. Delicacies will also donate $10 to Go With Courage for every gift card sold that day.

Roslyn Social will be offering “Boxes of Courage” to go for lunch and dinner, which will include a complimentary bottle of Notorious Pink Rose wine for orders of $50 and over. The restaurant will set the mood of the day by providing music throughout the day from its upstairs outdoor patio.

Additionally, KNIT is offering specially knitted pink hats as well as yarn and package sets whose sales will benefit Go With Courage, Diane’s Bakery is donating all proceeds from sales of their pink-wrapped baked goods that weekend, SHAG Boutique is also donating 20 percent of profits in addition to hosting a trunk show from Long Beach-based 2Gypsea Souls, Roslyn Pharmacy will be donating 20 percent of profits from all pink items sold that day, and BKeeperNYC’s mask chain sales will benefit Go With Courage all month long.

Fellow businesses who will be donating 15 to 20 percent of profits on the day of shopping include East Hills Automotive, Cami Boutique, Body Brite, Roslyn Village Nails, Yolo, Katherine Tess Boutique, Jill Scherer Ltd, and Shish Kebab Grill.

A silent auction is also scheduled to take place under the main tent, with bidding beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. Bidders will use their first names and provide an email address and phone number as contact information, plus a backup checkbook or cash depending on how the Wi-Fi works. Items include a $1,000 gift card to Poll Restaurants donating by Poll Brothers, a fur blanket from Bill Greene and Tsontos Furs, an Yves Saint Laurent teddy bucket in metallic gold, a Michele stainless steel and diamond watch, a Jimmy Choo pebbled leather tote, and a $500 Saks Fifth Avenue gift card, among other things.

The Village of Roslyn has also suspended parking for the day and will be lighting the Ellen Ward Clock Tower pink for the second year in a row.

Jaslow said in a statement that she was looking forward to seeing everyone on the day of the event.

“I am so grateful to the Incorporated Village of Roslyn for their support of our 2nd annual ‘A Day of Courage,'” Jaslow said. “We have a large number of Roslyn High School student volunteers on board working for community service hours and we are hoping that the community comes out in large numbers to support, not only Go With Courage, but also our local small businesses,  who are trying their best to survive in the face of the unprecedented challenges presented by the COVID Pandemic.  I am honored to have earned the trust of our community and I’m grateful to be able to continue the important work of Go With Courage and We’ve Got Your Back.”

Go With Courage’s second annual Day of Courage will take place Friday, Oct. 23, and will begin at 10 a.m.
