A change of name is in store for one of Long Island’s largest health systems and several of its hospitals, including one in Flower Hill.

The former Catholic Health Services of Long Island has shortened its name to Catholic Health, and the former St. Francis Hospital: The Heart Center, mildly altered to St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center. A new logo, depicting outstretched arms with images of a cross and chalice has also been implemented.

Joseph Carofano, senior vice president of strategy and chief marketing officer at Catholic Health, told Newsday that the new name worked better in “a new age, where we are mobile-focused and speak in sound bites, and the word services is really a generic term anyway.”

“We also wanted to continue to highlight that we are a faith-based organization,” Carofano said. “Long Island is all we do. We don’t have medical offices anywhere else.”

The rest of the hospitals in the Catholic Health System have also received name changes, and are now Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre; St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage; Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip; St. Catherine of Siena Hospital in Smithtown and St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson.
