North Hempstead Town Board members voted unanimously on Thursday to approve a part-time schedule for the town attorney, reducing her schedule to 60 percent.

According to payroll records, the annual salary for the official, Elizabeth Botwin, will decrease to $98,586 from $164,475.

Town spokeswoman Carole Trottere said the reason for the change is “personal,” but that the change is temporary. Other staff members will make up for the reduced schedule.

“We are confident that with the town attorney’s schedule reduced, the remaining deputy town attorneys and other legal staff will be very capable of handling the Town’s legal affairs,” Trottere said in a statement.
