The Village of East Hills is kicking off the Independence Day celebrations early on Saturday with a host of events in the park.

East Hills village Attorney Bill Burton said the day starts with the annual July 4th parade from 10 a.m. to noon, beginning in the upper parking lot and winding through the park to its finale at the theater lawn.

A fireworks display begins on the great lawn at 6 p.m. with dinner from the Park Grille and music. Live music begins at 7 with local band Kamellot, a cover band playing hits from the ’70s to today, and will last until the fireworks display begins at 9:15 p.m.

Burton said a large advantage of being an East Hills resident is the number of events the village sponsors throughout the year.

“We do so many events of different kinds and different nature. It’s a patriotic day so a wonderful way to celebrate our country and independence and freedoms,” Burton said. “But in addition, we embrace new and different concepts of entertainment and program for our village, and we have many different types of events including a pool day for seniors to concerts to art contests. What makes East Hills special, among the other wonderful aspects of the village, are the programs we offer for kids, for adults and for families.”

Residents will be asked for their park card at the gate. Tickets from the village office are required for guests, and there is a limit of four guest tickets per household. In case of inclement weather, a rain date is set for Sunday.
