The Village of East Hills recently had to suspend sanitation work due to a COVID-19 outbreak among crew members, according to Mayor Michael Koblenz.
In his letter to the village, Koblenz said all available staff in the Department of Public Works and Sanitation who were not considered close contacts with those that had COVID-19 plowed the roads for the snow that fell last Friday.
Koblenz told Black Slate Media that sanitation resumed on its normal schedule Saturday.
The outbreak is the second one the village has seen since early December, when it had to shut down Village Hall for five days.
During December’s Board of Trustees meeting, Koblenz said the village paid an agency to come in to disinfect and give a deep cleaning to Village Hall following positive tests from two employees.
“We did all the vehicles, trucks, security vehicles and everything,” Koblenz said then. “We did some of the fitness center and we did some other areas in house. This was a deep cleaning.”
