The Roslyn village board moved at Tuesday’s meeting to approve an eating and drinking permit for the upcoming Gino’s Family Pizzeria at 5 Railroad Ave.

Frank Quatela, an architect speaking on behalf of Gino’s business owners, said they have acquired the five parking spots that the zoning board had mandated for the pizzeria to proceed.

Before the approval, Trustee Craig Westergard asked about food waste procedures due to the high number of raccoons near the property.

Quatela said that the standard procedure at the pizzeria’s other locations is to keep the food waste in an “air-conditioned room until it is ready to be picked up.”

Mayor John Durkin said this was also the practice required by village code.

The 25-seat pizzeria will be “an abbreviated version of their other locations” because it is limited on space, said Quatela.

An alcohol permit is not “on the agenda right now,” said Quatela, as the business owners would like to “explore the territory first and see what fares well” before they begin adding new functions.

Gino’s Family Pizzeria’s other locations include Port Washington, Manhasset, Great Neck and Merrick on Long Island. They also operate a number of pizzerias in New York City.
