The Roslyn Chamber of Commerce presented a proposal to hold a crafts fair in the Village of Roslyn to the village board during Tuesday’s meeting.
Richard Branciforte, a chamber director, said the fair will feature high-end crafts, artwork and goods.
The chamber is looking to hold the event on Sunday, Sept. 30.
Branciforte said the chamber suggests holding the event at the new park on Skillman Street.
Northern Boulevard would not have to be closed, he said.
There will be around 35 to 50 booths at the fair, Branciforte said.
There will also be some food vendors; Branciforte said village restaurants will get first chance to participate.
Branciforte asked trustees to consider waiving the permit fee, since many residents don’t know the park exists and it is out of the way.
Mayor John Durkin said he thinks the board would be more than happy to waive the fee.
During the meeting the board also unanimously approved the village budget for the next fiscal year.
As of Wednesday morning a copy of the budget was not available.
Durkin said the tax levy increased by 0.5 percent this year.
The village has not raised taxes at all in the past six years, Durkin said.
The slight increase gives the board flexibility with forthcoming capital projects, Trustee Marshall Bernstein said.
Durkin also said Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s like to see “willingness on the part of the municipality to tax.”
“We have not raised taxes in six years,” Durkin said. “It has the possibility of damaging our tax rating.”
