The Roslyn Board of Education recognized Natya Glasco for her “outstanding” performance as a member of the Roslyn High School girls’ track and field team on Thursday night at its meeting.

Glasco broke a 30-year-old school record in the shot put that was set by her coach, Vera Trenchfield, by reaching 40 feet, 1 inch. In the Division 1 NYSPHSAA Track and Field Championships, Natya finished in third place in her event.

To the delight of many family members and friends in attendance, school board President Meryl Waxman Ben-Levy and Coach Trenchfield presented Glasco with a certificate of achievement.

Trenchfield praised Glasco as a hard-working and dedicated member of her team, while Ben-Levy described her as an “amazing” young athlete.

In unrelated news, student delegate Josh Bloom introduced members of the Roslyn High cheerleaders and band and school mascot, the Roslyn Bulldog, in his remarks regarding activities planned for Homecoming Day on Sept. 29.

Turning to business matters, the board accepted the latest audit and treasurer’s reports.

Treasurer Linda Gillespie reported improved financial performance for the district.

All agenda items were passed unanimously without additional discussion from the board or public comments.
