Like young people across the nation, students at Roslyn High School led a memorial tribute on March 14 for those who were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida one month earlier.

Students and staff gathered in the gymnasium shortly before 10:00am. Once per minute, the name of a victim was read aloud and a bell was rung. The assembled crowd was in total silence for the 17 minutes of the memorial.

Afterward, several hundred students held a peaceful but impassioned demonstration against school violence and in favor of measures to stop it.

At Roslyn Middle School, several hundred students and staff members also gathered for a 17-minute tribute to the victims, while the Community Service Club there challenged students and faculty to be mindful of the things and people in our lives for which we are grateful.

Throughout the district, faculty members wore orange clothes or ribbons to commemorate those who lost their lives.
