With summer winding down, the Sands Point Board of Trustees on Tuesday night approved several improvements to grounds of the Village Club.

Field of Greens LLC was hired to do fall and spring planting at the club, which cost $18,800. A turf brush — which is used to maintain the grass on the golf course — was purchased for $6,250. A resolution was also approved to pay $14,200 to Sisto DeNardis Contracting for work done on the golf cart paths earlier this year.

The village will hold a public hearing at its next Board of Trustees meeting on Sept. 25 concerning the categories of Village Club membership, membership fees and other fees. Mayor Edward Adler said the village was required to hold a hearing on these issues once each year.

In other action, the trustees approved various renovations to the Water Department building, which would cost $76,000. The project’s cost was covered by a grant, the scope of which was expanded on Tuesday to include the handling of hazardous material.

Also expanding in scope was road work in the village, totaling $495,000 and paid through bond funds. Trustee and Road Commissioner Katharine Ullman said work would be done on Barkers Point Road from Sands Point Road to Cedar Lane.

“That’s the major expense,” Ullman said.

She said drainage work would be done on East Road and curb work on Arden and Messenger Lanes.

“We’re very pleased. It came in at a nice price,” she said.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ullman was honored with a citation from the New York State Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials for 25 years of distinguished public service.

“What a nice surprise,” Ullman said upon receiving the citation from Adler.
