After seeing the media attention surrounding a WWII vet who had a wish to get 100 birthday cards for his 100th birthday, students in Mrs. Doyle’s seventh-grade social studies classes at New Hyde Park Memorial High School in the Sewanhaka Central High School District rose to the challenge.

Students created their own cards and included words of thanks for veteran James South, who is currently living in an assisted living facility in Texas. Prior to creating the cards, students listened to Mr. South’s media interviews and learned about his life story and experiences.
