Port Washington Union Free School District (PWUFSD) has announced that two seniors from Paul D. Schreiber High School—Emma Levin and Hannah Roth—have officially been named semifinalists in the Coca-Cola Scholarship program. Levin and Roth are both in the running for one of 150 college scholarships worth $20,000 each to help them cover the costs of their respective universities.

“All of our students work hard to excel in their academic career, and Emma and Hanna are perfect examples of this determination and dedication,” said Kathleen Mooney, Superintendent of Port Washington School District. “Being named a semifinalist in the Coca-Cola Scholarship program is an incredible accomplishment in itself, and we will continue to cheer on and support these two as they move into the final round of the competition. We are so proud of their accomplishments and their representation of the district.”

Hanna and Emma are two of 1,896 high school seniors who were selected as semifinalists from a pool of 95,715 applications from across the country. Selection is based on students’ academic excellence, leadership and service demonstrated in school and community activities. Both students have been greatly supported by students and faculty throughout the selection process.

“Each year we have students advance in this program, we are incredibly proud as a school and a district,” said Ira Pernick, Principal of PWUFSD’s Paul D. Schreiber High School. “We are confident that the success of Hanna and Emma will inspire other younger students to continue their hard work in their studies to accomplish similar goals.”

A joint effort of Coca-Cola bottlers across the United States and The Coca-Cola Company, the Coca-Cola Scholars Program is one of the largest corporate-sponsored, achievement-based scholarship programs of its kind. With the addition of the 2019 class, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will have provided more than 6,150 Coke Scholars nationwide with over $69 million in scholarships over the course of 31 years.

Semifinalists are now asked to complete Phase 2 applications, which include essays, recommendations, and transcripts. An independent selection committee will review the applications and select 250 Regional Finalists by the end of January to participate in online or in-person interviews. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars will be named in March and come to Atlanta in April for a celebratory banquet and Leadership Development Institute facilitated by program alumni.
