Applications available for Great Neck school board advisory committees

The Island Now

The Great Neck Board of Education is currently accepting applications from individuals who wish to serve on one of the Board’s two advisory committees for the 2019–20 school year: the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) and the Financial/Building Advisory Committee (FBAC).

Committee members serve as conduits to and from the Board of Education, and they are encouraged to offer input regarding specific matters of concern to the public. The CAC advises the Board and Administration about issues that pertain to the Great Neck school community. The FBAC reviews the financial operations of the District and ongoing construction projects.

Each committee meets four to five times during the school year, and meetings typically run between one-and-a-half and two hours in length.

The composition for both committees will remain the same as years past, with representation from the following groups: high school students (grades 9–12), residents without children currently enrolled in the Great Neck Public Schools, parents of students currently attending the Great Neck Public Schools (Pre-K–12), and present GNPS staff members.

The Board of Education has established a term of up to two years for advisory committee members. After a committee member has completed two years of service on any combination of advisory committees, the individual must wait an additional two years before they will be eligible to serve again.

The application to serve on the CAC or FBAC is available on the District website at www.greatneck.k12.ny.us/committees. Hard copies of the application form are available in the Phipps Administration Building, 345 Lakeville Rd.

The deadline to submit an application to serve on a committee is Friday, June 14. For additional information, please contact Kathy Koslow, secretary to the Board of Education, at kkoslow@greatneck.k12.ny.us or (516) 441-4001.
