Students at Hillside Grade School in the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park School District learned about important character traits, fitness, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) and student leadership when representatives from Boosterthon visited their school.

Each day during the weeklong program, students interacted with the organization’s team members to learn about a variety of character education themes, including citizenship, zest, growth mindset, integrity and teamwork. They also engaged in dialogue and watched videos to support their understanding of these important concepts.

As a culminating activity, students participated in an indoor Fun Run, where students enjoyed running through the school’s gymnasium as music played. They were also given glowsticks and other prizes during the program. The Fun Run served as a fundraiser for the school’s PTA and raised money for educational assemblies and activities to benefit the students. Students and staff had a great time participating in the event, which supported the school’s character education program.
