Third-grade students in Gina Gaudioso’s class at Manor Oaks School in the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park School District celebrated Chinese New Year by learning the traditions of the lunar holiday.

The class enjoyed reading books, viewed a dragon dancing video and completed a packet that included a variety of activities, including a Chinese New Year word search. They also colored and constructed dragon puppets using construction paper and Popsicle sticks. Ms. Gaudioso gave each student a red envelope for good luck that contained a free homework pass and a piece of candy. The students then had fun taking swings at a dragon piñata, all while listening to traditional Chinese New Year music.

Principal Ken Craft visited the class and took part in the piñata fun.
