Floral Park-Bellerose School students recently enjoyed a creepy and creative Challenge Friday as they worked in teams to construct creature catchers.

The activity began with students brainstorming about different design options and then hashing out their ideas with classmates. They were then given clothespins, pipe cleaners, spider webs, coffee filters, Legos and craft sticks to put their creature catcher ideas to the test. After completing their projects, students discussed what worked and what didn’t, and how they could have improved their designs.

Challenge Friday is an initiative that began last school year. It aids students in developing their 21st-century competencies – communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity. Challenge Friday will continue on the first Friday of every month, much to the delight of students and staff.
