Floral Park-Bellerose School students have been learning the poses and relaxing techniques of yoga during classes offered through the Nassau BOCES Arts in Education program. This is the second year that the students have been able to take yoga classes during the school day.

Throughout a six-week period, which began on Jan. 6, all grade levels will meet twice with Donna Coogan, a yoga instructor with more than 20 years of experience. The classes last approximately 40-50 minutes.

Coogan noted that she has heard positive feedback from the students, with some noting that a yoga session felt like they were “on a vacation.”

The purpose of bringing yoga to the schools is to provide students with social-emotional learning.
