Floral Park-Bellerose UFSD Bond Vote

The Island Now

The Floral Park-Bellerose School District invites all community residents to vote on the bond referendum on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018. Voting will take place at both the Floral Park-Bellerose Elementary School and John Lewis Childs Elementary School from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The proposed bond will fund renovations and expansion at both elementary schools to establish an equitable 21st-century learning environment designed to support the district’s academic goals and curriculum, student’s emotional and social needs and to preserve the community’s investment in the district’s two schools. Expansion of programs and services, favorable class sizes, analysis of projected enrollment growth studies and the recommendations of the Strategic Planning Committee were also taken into consideration when developing the final scope of work.

The total cost of the proposed work is $17.5 million. To reduce the cost to residents, a total of $2,367,488 in community-approved capital reserve funds and $432,512 in Smart Schools Bond Act funds will be used to reduce the amount borrowed to $14.7 million. The average tax increase to homeowners is approximately $98 per year or approximately $8.17 per month.
