The Floral Park Camolbots #2438 FIRST Lego League team competed at the School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc. (SBPLI) Qualifying Tournament No. 7 at Mineola High School on Sunday, Feb. 9.

This year’s FIRST Lego League theme is city shaper. Teams were challenged to identify a problem with a building or public space in their community, design a solution, and share their solution with others and then refine it. The Camolbots’ solution is a rooftop garden with healing pods for the Cohen Children’s Medical Center.

The team received the Innovation Project Award for Presentation, which recognizes a team that effectively communicates the problem they have identified and their proposed solution to both the judges and other potential supporters.

The Camolbots also received the Alliance Trophy, alongside the Spartan Robotics 2 #50199 team of Elmont, for the top score of 285 points in the alliance round of the robot matches.

The Camolbots were one of six teams at the event selected to proceed to the Long Island FIRST Lego League Championships at Longwood High School on March 1, where they will compete against 41 other teams from across Long Island.

The Camolbots team is comprised of students from Floral Park Memorial High School and Floral Park-Bellerose School. The team includes Floral Park Memorial seventh-graders Zachary Casson, Ainsley Cunningham, Colin Marsanico and Henry Ragusa; and, Floral Park-Bellerose sixth-graders Moses Fattorini and Jude O’Connor. The team is coached by parent volunteers Paola Ragusa and Cindy Casson.
