Great Neck Public Schools Television receives three top national awards

The Island Now

Great Neck Public Schools Television (GNPS/TV) is the proud recipient of top national awards from the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) 2020 Hometown Media Awards.

For the second time in three years, GNPS/TV has earned the prestigious Overall Excellence in Educational Access award, as well as two awards for student-produced programs.

The Overall Excellence in Educational Access award recognizes the best educational channel in the country, focusing on TV programs produced throughout the year and overall operational activities.

According to Robert Zahn, the district’s educational TV and broadcast media director, GNPS/TV was selected for this award “over other well-regarded educational TV/ film institutions nationwide—not just secondary schools, but colleges, universities, and media institutes as well! Our success is a testament to the hard work and talent of our students, the GNPS/TV staff, and the constant support from our Board of Education.”

In addition to the Overall Excellence in Educational Access Award, GNPS/TV received two 2020 Hometown Media Awards in the student division of competition for outstanding student-produced programs: Best Broadcast of a Performance or Concert for the 2019 District Faculty Recital; and Best Video: Educational Activity for South Middle’s Thank a Veteran program.

The student division of the Hometown Media Awards requires that the overall direction, production, and all technical tasks (camera, directing, editing, sound, etc.) be performed by students at the primary, secondary, or undergraduate level.

Entries are evaluated by a team of qualified judges. GNPS/TV records events throughout the district broadcasts programs within school buildings and provides original content for the Great Neck Public Schools community.

Programs are available on-demand on the district website, and air on Cablevision Channel 75 or Verizon FiOS Channel 32 within the Incorporated Villages of Great Neck.
