The vote on the proposed 2020–21 School District Budget will be held on Tuesday, May 19, from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Preliminary Budget

Copies of the 2020–21 preliminary budget will be available on Friday, Feb. 28, at the office of the District Clerk, Phipps Admin. Bldg., 345 Lakeville Rd., on school days from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. The budget is also posted on the district website, www.greatneck.k12.ny.us, and will be available at budget meetings, as listed below. Reference copies may be perused in each public school and in the Great Neck Library, all branches.

Budget Meetings & Adoption

Budget meetings are scheduled during March, April, and May. Residents are encouraged to attend the budget meetings and to respond to the preliminary budget. Firm decisions on the budget will not be made until the Board listens to the community’s comments. Meeting dates, times, and school locations follow:

Informal budget hearing: Monday, March 2, 8:30 p.m. at North Middle, 77 Polo Rd.

Board discussion with staff and public: Saturday, March 21, 9:30 a.m. at South High, 341 Lakeville Rd.

Informal budget hearing: Monday, March 23, 8:30 p.m. at South High, 341 Lakeville Rd.

Official budget hearing and adoption of proposed 2020-21 budget: Tuesday, April 21, 8:30 p.m. at North High, 35 Polo Rd.

Discussion only: Monday, May 11, 8:30 p.m. at South Middle, 349 Lakeville Rd.

Voter Registration

Residents who have voted in any school or general election between 2015 and 2018 are automatically registered to vote in the school election on May 19. Residents who have not voted between 2015 and 2018, or are not registered, may register at the Office of the District Clerk, Phipps Admin. Bldg., 345 Lakeville Rd., on school days from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Residents must be 18 years of age or older, a citizen of the United States, and have lived in the district for at least 30 days. The deadline to register is Thursday, May 14. Please note that registration with the District Clerk only registers an individual to vote in the Great Neck School District elections.

Absentee Ballot Applications

Qualified, registered voters can obtain applications for absentee ballots from the district website or from the Office of the District Clerk, Phipps Admin. Bldg., 345 Lakeville Rd., on school days from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Residents who are qualified voters and whose registration records have been marked “permanently disabled” by the Board of Elections will automatically receive absentee ballots. Completed absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19.

Four Election Districts

There are four polling locations for school district elections: E.M. Baker School, Lakeville School, Saddle Rock School, and South High School. Registered voters will only be allowed to cast a ballot at their assigned polling location.

Residents who are unsure of their polling location can visit the district website for additional information at www.greatneck.k12.ny.us/budget. This information is also available by calling the District Clerk on school days from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. at (516) 441-4020.

Voting Rights Act

The Great Neck Public Schools strives to provide comprehensible budget information so residents can make informed decisions and exercise their right to vote in the annual School District Election and Budget Vote.

Section 203 of the federal Voting Rights Act requires school districts in Nassau County to provide election information in English and Spanish. In accordance with this Act, print materials produced by the Great Neck Public Schools pertaining to the

2020–21 School District Election and Budget Vote will be distributed in both languages.

Residents who prefer to review the budget and voting information in languages other than English and Spanish are encouraged to visit the district website at www.greatneck.k12.ny.us/budget. The translation feature at the top of the homepage allows our website to be viewed in more than 100 different languages.
