The Great Neck Public Schools welcomes Ai-Huei Chang-Lau as the new assistant principal of the John F. Kennedy School. Ms. Chang-Lau was unanimously appointed by the Board of Education in June and she joins the district in August, as JFK’s previous assistant principal, Michelle Bell, assumes her new role as principal of Parkville School following the retirement of Kathleen Murray.
Ms. Chang-Lau brings a wealth of experience to her new position in Great Neck. Her career in education spans more than 20 years in the New York City Department of Education, including six years as an elementary assistant principal and fifteen years as an elementary teacher and staff developer.
“I am incredibly grateful and excited to join the Great Neck Public Schools,” says Ms. Chang-Lau. “I look forward to working in partnership with Principal Gimondo to continue the work of advocating for and providing all students and families with an educational experience where values and diversity are celebrated.”
Ms. Chang-Lau comes to Great Neck from P.S. 203 in Queens, a PreK–Grade 5 school, where she served as an assistant principal since 2016. Prior to that position, Ms. Chang-Lau was an assistant principal at P.S. 97 in Brooklyn, also a PreK–Grade 5 school.
Before becoming an administrator, Ms. Chang-Lau worked at P.S. 83 in New York, a PreK–Grade 5 school, as a classroom teacher for seven years and a staff developer and Reading Recovery teacher for eight years.
Ai-Huei Chang-Lau received a Bachelor of Arts in History from SUNY Stony Brook, a Master of Science in Elementary Education from Mercy College, and a Master of Science in Education Administration and Supervision–School Building Leader from Fordham University. She also holds an Advanced Certificate in School District Leadership from Bank Street College of Education
