Ruben Fonseca, a junior at H. Frank Carey High School in the Sewanhaka Central High School District, has been recognized as a candidate for the National Hispanic Recognition Program.
This prestigious honor is awarded to Hispanic and Latino 11th-graders who score in the top 2.5 percent on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Sponsored by the College Board, this program seeks to recognize and award Hispanic and Latino students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and college readiness.
Ruben is an exemplary student, often enriching the class discussion with insight, poignancy and maturity. Not only does he strive to reach his highest potential, he works to raise his peers up as well. Ruben is a thinker, seeking a deeper understanding of the content he studies. He does not simply memorize facts; instead, he thrives to understand how and why phenomena occur.
In addition to his academic excellence, Ruben contributes much to the Carey community. He is actively involved in multiple extracurricular activities, including National Honor Society, multiple performing groups and Model UN.
The Carey community is proud of all Ruben has accomplished, and the district wishes him continued success in his future endeavors.
