H. Frank Carey High School’s virtual enterprise class ranked in the Top 10 of the Business Plan competition at the Virtual Enterprise Long Island Regional Conference and Exhibition.

Virtual enterprise is a course that simulates a real-life business. Students who take the course determine the business concept and name and are able to create and design products to sell. They apply for positions within the company, undergo a rigorous interview process and are then placed in their respective positions. Students are responsible for running the day-to-day operations.

This year, Carey’s virtual enterprise class created an environmentally friendly clothing business called “EcoVibe.”

The students who presented EcoVibe’s business plan were Nick Abruzzo, chief executive officer; Kaitlyn Beers, chief operating officer; Gerard Andre, chief security officer; Joe Doona, chief financial officer; and Sebastian Viti, accounts receivable.

They competed against schools from across Long Island and the Tri-state area. The conference also gave students the opportunity to participate in the trade show event, where they virtually sold products to other virtual enterprise participants. EcoVibe made more than $200,000 in sales.

The next step is presenting during the Business Plan championship round at American Portfolios on Feb. 25.
