South High presents A Chorus Line: High School Edition

South High School is pleased to present a virtual production of A Chorus Line: High School Edition. The online performance will premiere on Friday, April 23 at 7 p.m., and will be available for viewing through Saturday, April 24 at 11 p.m. A one-time family/group ticket fee of $10 allows viewers to stream the performance multiple times during this period.

This musical performance was rehearsed and filmed from September 2020 through January 2021. Every student recorded their own part for each song and scene, and the video footage was edited together to present a cohesive virtual production formatted for an online audience. This was a mammoth effort on the part of the cast, crew, and faculty production team.

A Chorus Line is a stunning concept musical capturing the spirit and tension of a Broadway chorus audition. Exploring the inner lives and poignant ambitions of professional Broadway performers, the show features memorable musical numbers such as: “What I Did for Love,” “One,” “I Can Do That,” “At the Ballet,” “The Music and the Mirror,” and “I Hope I Get It.” A brilliantly complex fusion of song, dance, and compellingly authentic drama, the show was instantly recognized as a classic. A Chorus Line: High School Edition is a full-length version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, adapted for performance by high school students with family audiences.

This virtual performance is a collaboration between Theatre South and GNPS/TV. The theatre production team includes: Tommy Marr, director; Debra Dumas, production manager; Samantha Amaral, choreographer; Lydia Gladstone, costume design; Dr. Janine Robinson, vocal music teacher; and Michael Schwartz, performing arts department head. The GNPS/TV production team includes: Rob Zahn, director and editor; Paul Derych, special effects editor; Matthew Canigiani, editor; and Tracy Brusk, preproduction.
