Center Street School held its annual Health and Safety Week from Oct. 7-11. Students took part in morning yoga sessions, mindful movement activities and a variety of presentations from guests based on the theme of wellness.

Members of the Garden City Park Fire Department visited on two separate days and reviewed aspects of fire prevention and safety. Students also had the opportunity to walk through a smokehouse and learn how to stay out of harm’s way when exiting a smoke-filled room. They explored a fire truck as well and learned about the equipment that is used to put out fires.

Police officers and an EMT reviewed various aspects of safety with fourth and fifth graders, while kindergarteners and first graders received lessons about stranger awareness during a Yellow Dyno presentation. A dentist addressed students in kindergarten through second grade regarding best practices for healthy teeth. Other workshops held during the week highlighted health and fitness and the Code of Conduct.
