A total of 70 Herricks High School DECA members attended the 60th annual New York DECA State Career Conference in Rochester from Feb. 26-28. They competed against other DECA students with the goal of advancing to the International Career Development Conference. The Herricks group was successful, with 14 students earning state winner distinctions and eligibility for the next level.

The annual state competition is one that is rich in tradition and is an excellent way to expand the member’s professional network and develop necessary skills for the future. As a result of their performance at this event, Yasmeen Gilani, Gunreet Grewal, Greshma John, Karan Kaknia, Preethi Krishnamoorthy, Carolyn Lau, Lauren Levine, Jacqueline Manetta, Lamiya Rangwala, Nishi Shah, Priya Shah, Rikhav Shah, Emily Tucker, and David Zhang now have the opportunity to travel to Nashville, Tenn. in late April for the international contest. Additionally, Ashna Shah and Gurvir Singh are moving on to the international level based on their report of the practices of the Herricks High School store.
