Herricks Scholastic writing success

The Herricks Public Schools are pleased to announce several student achievements in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards program. Six entries won Gold Key distinctions and have advanced to the national level, with results to be shared in mid-March.

Mia Carranza received three Gold Keys, including one for her portfolio – an especially noteworthy accomplishment that brings the prospect of other prominent recognitions. She also earned three Honorable Mentions.

Carrie Hsu achieved two Gold Keys, three Silver Keys, and five Honorable Mentions, while Aroob Jalil earned a Gold Key, three Silver Keys, and an Honorable Mention. Derek Chen was awarded a Silver Key and four Honorable Mentions, Carolyn Lau received a Silver Key and Honorable Mention, Patrick Leu achieved a Silver Key and Kayla Sohn earned an Honorable Mention.

Presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards provide opportunities for creative teens to be celebrated. Through the awards, students receive opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships.
