On Feb. 5, the Herricks High School science faculty members experienced a full day tour of the Indian Point Nuclear Power Facility.

The tour was hosted by the Entergy Corporation and facilitated by Mr. Patrick Falciano.

With more than 45 years of experience, Mr. Falciano provided a classroom presentation that covered multiple topics that included a radioactivity training, the history of Indian Point, the present state of nuclear power in the United States and an in-depth discussion on the nuclear fission process itself.

The day concluded with a walking tour of the entire facility that included the radioactive control area (RCA), generators, turbines, and control panel simulator.  Looking back on the experience, teachers truly valued the day and have acquired newfound knowledge that can now be shared to Herricks students for years to come.
