The music programs at both North High School and South High School have been selected to perform in the Long Island Music Hall of Fame, or LIMHoF, Holiday Concert on Sunday, Nov. 17. The performance will take place at 2 p.m. at The SPACE at Westbury Theatre, located at 250 Post Ave., Westbury.
Invitations to perform at this Holiday Concert were extended only to schools that have been recognized for excellence through the 2019 LIMHoF School Recognition Program. In this year’s recognition program, North High received a rating of Gold with Distinction, and South High received a rating of Gold.
Ensembles from Great Neck will perform three pieces at the LIMHoF Holiday Concert. The North High Symphony Orchestra will perform the final movement of Symphony No. 9 by Ludwig van Beethoven. The South High Chamber Symphony Orchestra (comprised of students from the Chamber String Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Mixed Choir) will perform “A Christmas Festival” by Leroy Anderson, and selections from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein.
North High music students are taught by Dr. Pamela Levy, a fine and performing arts department head/vocal music teacher, and Joseph Rutkowski, the instrumental music teacher. South High musicians are taught by Michael Schwartz, performing arts department head/instrumental music teacher; Mark Boschen, instrumental teacher; and Dr. Janine Robinson, vocal music teacher.
