Kindness is a central theme at John Lewis Childs School in Floral Park-Bellerose School District, and students, faculty and staff put their goodwill to the test when they raised funds and collected goods for the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island in New Hyde Park.

Members of the Student Council, under the guidance of adviser Kelly Zullo, have been collecting goods, such as nonperishable food, paper towels and cleaning supplies, for the organization since September. In November, the students visited the Ronald McDonald House and dropped off what they had collected.

Recently, the school held a fundraiser to benefit the organization. Students were encouraged to act as “Kind-Hearted Kids” by completing acts of kindness at home. In turn, parents were asked to give a small monetary or goods donation. In just 10 days, the school community collected a substantial number of supplies and money for the organization. In all, $2,050 was raised. The school presented Ronald McDonald House of Long Island Development Manager Jovann Dixon and Hospitality and Event volunteer Joanne Wolfring with the donations at an assembly on March 8.
