Students at Manor Oaks Elementary School in the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park School District participated in the school’s seventh annual Turkey Trot before Thanksgiving.
The annual event is run every year by physical education teacher Lisa Santos. To participate, students must donate at least one nonperishable food item. More than 600 items of food were collected and donated to 23 families in the community for the holidays. The students can enter into the race or a fun run, as well as a Thanksgiving-themed costume contest. Each year the school hopes the event becomes bigger and bigger so it can feed more of those in need.
