At the Board of Education meeting of June 20, the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) Lakeville Section presented a $300 check for the Great Neck/Manhasset/Nassau BOCES Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP).

This annual donation was presented by Miriam Chatinover of the NCJW to Board of Education President Barbara Berkowitz. Also at the presentation were Board Vice President Donald Ashkenase, Board Trustees Donna Peirez, Jeffrey Shi and Rebecca Sassouni, and Superintendent Teresa Prendergast. Representatives from PCHP included Program Coordinator Regina Farinaccio along with several participants, parent educators, and volunteers.

Following the check presentation, PCHP classroom volunteer Ilise Friedman and parent participant Caroline Calderon addressed the Board and the audience about the valuable services provided by the PCHP.

PCHP has been in the district for over 40 years and NCJW has supported it since its inception. PCHP, for eligible 16-month- to three-year-olds and their parents/grandparents, is based at the Cumberland Avenue Center. Research shows that early-childhood programs such as PCHP contribute positively to children’s performance in school.
