New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Union Free School District has installed brand new interactive Newline boards in all K-6 classrooms, including ENL, Reading Support and enrichment classrooms, throughout all four buildings in the district.
Through interactive touch display technology, the Newline boards function as both a desktop screen display and collaborative white board for teachers and students to utilize during classroom lessons. Students can write and draw directly on the board using a stylus, finger or palm, as the Newlines feature intelligent touch technology with object recognition. The boards support up to 20 points of touch, allowing for multiple students to interact simultaneously. The students can also cast to the Newline board, using their district-provided Chromebooks, to share their work and presentations with the class.
Teachers have been using the Newline boards to present lessons in a new, technologically focused way. The boards offer an on-screen annotation tool, which the teachers can screenshot to save for a later lesson or share with their students through a Google app such as Slides or Docs. All teachers received training on the Newline boards during Superintendent’s Conference Day on Sept. 1 and will continue to be provided hands-on training periodically throughout the year.
The installation of these boards directly aligns with the district’s goal to emphasize technology and media literacy through its Portrait of a Learner program.
