The Great Neck Public Schools is honored that North High School and South High School have been recognized by Newsweek as two of the best high schools in America for STEM education.
North High, #147 and South High, #163, lead Long Island schools on Newsweek’s list of the Top 5,000 STEM High Schools in America. The list was posted on the Newsweek website on Nov. 8 in recognition of National STEM Day. A list of the Top 500 STEM High Schools appears in the Nov. 15 print edition of Newsweek magazine.
“This is an incredible honor for our schools,” says Superintendent Dr. Teresa Prendergast. “This recognition speaks to the dedication of our teachers who share their passion for STEM education with our students every day. Our district takes great pride in our staff, our innovative programs, and the success of our students.”
Newsweek partnered with STEM.org to evaluate which primary and secondary institutions in America best offer students a quality experience in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, while also preparing them for post-school life.
According to the Newsweek website, the list highlights schools “that offer skilled teachers who keep up with developments in these fields and who create dynamic learning environments to engage their students.”
