Mark Xu and Matthew Xu, both juniors at North High School, were selected to perform with the 2019 Honor Orchestra of America.

The performance, which featured outstanding high school orchestra musicians from across the country, took place on March 16 during the Music for All National Festival in Indiana.

Mark, who plays the viola, and Matthew, who plays the violin, are both members of the North High Symphony Orchestra and the North High Chamber Music Society. Joseph Rutkowski is the instrumental music teacher at North High.

During the Music for All National Festival, student musicians received instrumental master classes, worked with world-renowned conductors, and were eligible for scholarship opportunities. Honor Orchestra of America participants were selected based on a recorded application, which was evaluated by music faculty members from the country’s leading universities.

The Honor Orchestra of America is sponsored by Music for All, a non-profit organization that has been providing educational programs and events for school bands and orchestras since 1975.
