The Island Now

Programs currently airing on Great Neck Public Schools Television (GNPS/TV) are: Focus on Education, District Spotlight, North Middle Cultural Heritage Celebration and Talent Show, and Student Filmmakers Showcase.

GNPS/TV programs are available on demand, 24/7, on the school district website at www.greatneck.k12.ny.us/tv. Programs can also be viewed in the incorporated villages of Great Neck on Optimum Channel 75 and on Verizon Fios Channel 32. Airing times in program descriptions below are for Optimum and Verizon viewing.

Focus on Education

Focus on Education is an ongoing series hosted by Superintendent of Schools Teresa Prendergast, highlighting what’s new and interesting in the district. This episode features an interview with two new elementary assistant principals: Michelle Bell from the John F. Kennedy School, and Sara Goldberg from Saddle Rock School. Focus on Education airs at 8 a.m., 12 p.m., 4 p.m., 8 p.m.

District Spotlight

District Spotlight is a program in a lively, magazine-format that highlights the wonderful events that take place throughout the Great Neck school community. This edition features activities from across the district, including: a very special art project at Saddle Rock School; a look behind the scenes at HTV and Blazers Live, the school morning news shows of South Middle School and North Middle School;​ highlights from the South High School musical, “A Little Night Music”; South Middle’s Dancing Classrooms culminating event; and more! District Spotlight airs at 9 a.m., 1 p.m., 5 p.m., and 9 p.m.

North Middle Cultural Heritage Celebration and Talent Show

The North Middle Cultural Heritage Celebration and Talent Show features wonderful songs, dances, and performances that celebrate the cultural diversity of the school. The program was filmed during the annual school-wide event on Jan 24, where North Middle faculty and families shared foods and activities from their heritage, followed by a variety of student performances. North Middle Cultural Heritage Celebration and Talent Show airs at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m.

Student Filmmakers Showcase

Student Filmmakers Showcase highlights short films produced, edited, and directed by middle and high school students. The showcase offers a variety of films and styles. The program is hosted by Robert Zahn, district director of educational television and broadcast media.​ South High Spotlight airs at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., 7 p.m., and 11 p.m.

GNPS/TV Programming

GNPS/TV programming reflects the offerings of the Great Neck Public Schools and the achievements of its students and staff. Programs are student-produced.
