Senior Luis Mavarez is being honored with H. Frank Carey High School’s October Character Award.

Mavarez is a student characterized by his dedication to helping others. He is an active participant in the PALS (Promoting Academics Through Life Skills) program, where he works closely with younger students. Luis’ volunteer efforts have helped PALS students to gain a stronger sense of independence and self-confidence, as they are encouraged to interact with others.

This past month, Luis volunteered to walk PALS students around the building as they delivered copies to various teachers. Guiding them throughout the building, he introduced them to each teacher, helped them become acquainted with each department and personally helped them deliver all copies.

Mavarez is a member of the Social Club that encourages PALS students to socialize with other classmates. He is a role model to his classmates who does not expect praise for his dedication. Mavarez’s selfless demonstration of kindness and generosity embodies the Carey spirit.
