Four students from Schreiber High School—Jordan Krainin, Hannah Siskin, Jeanie Ren, and Maddie Reynolds—and two students from South Salem Elementary School— Brandon Block and Nicholas Parziale—were selected to showcase their alluring artwork at the 2019 New York State Art Teachers Association Legislative Exhibit in the Legislative Building in Albany.

“It brings us great pride to recognize the talent of our six students who were chosen for their outstanding artistry. These exemplary individuals continue to impress us with their remarkable dedication to the arts,” said Kathleen Mooney, the superintendent of Port Washington Union Free School District. “The work ethic and character they each possess are the epitome of what the Port Washington School District continuously strives to attain.”

From Feb. 25 through March 7, Port’s students’ artwork was on display in the student art exhibit held in the state Legislative Building. Students and their families will have an exciting opportunity to connect with their legislators and meet with the assemblymember or senator from their local district. At the beginning of March, students with their parents, family, and friends are invited for a reception.

“We are very proud of our students and all the district’s outstanding art teachers who have contributed to their art studies and development of their artistic talents over the years, ” said Kevin Scully, the director of creative arts for Port schools. “We also thank the Board of Education, administration, and the Port Washington community for their continuing support of the arts.”

The New York State Art Teachers Association Legislative Exhibit was founded in 1990 by New York City art educator Joan Davidson. The event serves as the association’s largest public display of student artwork in a government building.
