Frank Carey High School band students in grades 7-12 witnessed a live musical performance when the Potsdam Brass Quintet visited their school on Oct. 13.

Music Department Chairperson Robert Cassara said the concert was planned to help reinforce the elements of music and to give the student-musicians a firsthand look at smaller-group performance techniques. It also correlated with the students’ curriculum, which focuses on the study of different genres of music.

Members of the quintet, who are all full-time faculty members at SUNY Potsdam, played several songs including “Vuelta del Fuego” by Kevin McKee, “Contrapunctus IX” by J.S. Bach and The Beatles “Eleanor Rigby,” which the school’s marching band also performs.

After the group concluded playing, students had an opportunity to ask questions about their instruments and their careers.
