The members of the Roslyn High School gay straight alliance decided that they wanted to make a difference in the lives of homeless LGBTQ+ youth so they investigated various organizations around the New York area. President Emily Mintz found the Ali Forney Center and called them to see what could be done to help out. The contact at the Ali Forney center mentioned that they are always in the need of socks, and that was all it took. The club took this as a challenge to collect as many socks as possible — and two weeks later they have collected 1,155 pairs of sock. For more information about the Ali Forney center visit their website at https://www.aliforneycenter.org/about-us/. The faculty advisor for the gay straight alliance is Lisa Daniels.
