The Roslyn High School Forensics team competed at the Princeton Speech and Debate invitational tournament held Nov. 30 through Dec. 2.
There were a total of 133 competitors in Varsity Lincoln Douglas where Andrew Goldberg took first place, Brandon Lee was an ctofinalist, William Borges was a double octofinalist, and Yasin Badawy was a triple octofinalist.
Yazid Badawy made it as a double octofinalist in Novice Lincoln Douglas.
In Public Forum, the team of Asher and Joey Bykov made it to double octofinalist.
Nicole Blattman was a finalist in Congress and Alex Russ was a semi-finalist in Varsity Original Interpretation.
The Roslyn High School students received a record four bids to the Tournament of Champions (TOC). The Tournament of Champions is hosted by the University of Kentucky in April and is the most prestigious competition for Speech and Debate in the United States. Competitors must receive two “bids” or half-qualifications at designated national competitions before they can attend. The “bid level” of the competition is determined by the TOC Committee and is based on the difficulty of the competition and number of competitors.
“Our team’s goal is to be able to compete at TOC,” said the club advisor Maryam Tazari.
