Roslyn students attend math tournament, sixth grader ties for first place

Thirty students from the East Hills, Harbor Hill and Roslyn Middle Schools attended the 13th Annual Nassau Math Olympiad on May 29 at SUNY Old Westbury.

There were 250 students in grades 4 through 6 from schools throughout Nassau County at the tournament, which was co-sponsored by the Nassau County Mathematics Teachers Association and the Nassau County Association of Mathematics Supervisors.

Students competed in individual and team contests. Roslyn Middle School sixth-grade student Ariela Yousefzadeh tied for first place among the 250 competitors.

The students were coached by Roslyn’s computer teacher Amy Braunstein, fifth grade teacher Jean Belcher, enrichment teacher Suzanne Falcone, second grade teacher Jen Bravo and middle school technology teacher Mark Valentino.
